Population density and urban air quality

چکیده

We use panel data from Germany to analyze the effect of population density on urban air pollution (nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, ozone, and an aggregate index for bad quality [AQI]). To address unobserved heterogeneity omitted variables, we present long difference/fixed effects estimates instrumental variables estimates, using historical soil as instruments. Using our preferred find that concentration increases with NO 2 elasticity 0.25 matter 0.08. The O 3 decreases −0.14. AQI density, 0.11–0.13. also a variety robustness tests. Overall, paper shows higher worsens local quality. • studies pollution. Considers pollutants (NO2, PM, O3) Air Quality Index. OLS variable estimates. density.

The air quality in Danish urban areas.

The Danish air pollution abatement is based by and large on emission control. Since the ratification of the international sulfur protocol of 1985, there has been a continuous tightening of the permissible sulfur content in fuels and of the maximum emissions from power plants. As a consequence, the total annual emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) has been reduced from 450,000 tons in the seventies ...

The use of electrochemical sensors for monitoring urban air quality in low-cost, high-density networks

Measurements at appropriate spatial and temporal scales are essential for understanding and monitoring spatially heterogeneous environmentswith complex andhighlyvariable emission sources, such as inurban areas. However, the costs and complexity of conventional air quality measurement methods means that measurement networks are generally extremely sparse. In this paper we show that miniature, lo...

SmartAQnet: remote and in-situ sensing of urban air quality

Air quality and the associated subjective and health-related quality of life are among the important topics of urban life in our time. However, it is very difficult for many cities to take measures to accommodate today’s needs concerning e.g. mobility, housing and work, because a consistent fine-granular data and information on causal chains is largely missing. This has the potential to change,...
